DJFL off season optional opportunities.

DJFL community,

Following the season many parents inquire about what they can do in the off season to keep their player involved in Football or get them ready for the next season. We have found certain sports and activities either directly or indirectly help to bring out the best in future players. Below is a list of opportunities that are available and have proven track records of success.

  • John Carlozzi Strength and conditioning – Offering a youth strength clinic. The program will teach athletes proper warm up and Dynamic Stretching techniques, speed and agility and implement introductory strength training in a safe and fun environment. The program is designed to increase athletes current strength and prevent overuse injuries. Carlozzi works with many DHS Football and Lacrosse players. Please contact John at 203-331-5363 for more information.

  • Blue Wave Wrestling club – An amazing opportunity to work with the Darien High School Wrestling coaches first hand. Goals are to develop wrestler's skills in scholastic wrestling. Emphasis on technique, match preparation, mental preparation, goal setting, conditioning, and weight training. Beginner to Advanced. From Coach Testa - "While there are many sports in town like basketball, soccer, ice hockey and track that can improve an athlete’s agility and speed, in my opinion no other sport is as beneficial to football players as wrestling. There are many examples of prominent NFL players who have wrestled in high school and college. Since wrestling is an individual sport that places an emphasis on tactical and strategic awareness, mental toughness, physical endurance and explosive and quick movement, there is a large parallel with football. Being an individual sport where your performance can affect the team's result wrestling helps to build toughness, determination, and perseverance. This year I was given the opportunity to use my wrestling experience to help teach and train the youth football players in town, this experience has solidified the link between these sports in my mind”. • Summer camps – Coach Trifone and the DHS Varsity staff will offer multiple camps. These are a great way to prepare for the season and work directly with the DHS staff and current DHS players. We highly encourage participation. Please look for dates and times this spring.
